OK, have replaced thermostat, cleared the code, its been two days now and the code hasn't come back. So it looks like 2EF5 = New Thermostat:P Also the coolant I drained was almost clear:S Which id say means its probably never been changed and and all the anti-freeze has just died lol Shame on BMW, before I bought the car it had a full service history from BMW. When I bought it car had 115000 KM's and was 5 years old. I will probably change the coolant again in two years.

Tip for future DIY persons:P 1. Changing the thermostat is not easy (Took me a whole day to change the thermostat and coolant, I started working on it around 9:00am) Finished around 4 pm. Remove the radiator fan, makes life a lot easier. There is a special procedure for filing and bleeding the cooling system. There are articles on it around + it is in the Bently manual.

I followed the manual. Yea the t-stat is designed to fail open so an over heat situation cannot happen. To whoever said there is a known failure range for the water pump.there is NOT.
